Photography: Digital Imaging
Course Overview
What will I learn?
This course in digital photography is suitable for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in photography and digital processing. It is suited for a variety of individuals, whether you are looking to turn your hobby into your career, or you are currently running a business that has a need for these skills. The course covers the basic photographic techniques and provides the perfect environment and encouragement to aid your photographic skills development.
You will learn to leave the automatic setting of your camera behind, and take control using the basic manual operations such as:
- Exposure Time
- Aperture
- ISO
- White balance
- Focal Length
You will learn how to:
- make long exposures
- capture light trails from traffic
- paint with light
- compose your images for maximum effect
Basic Photoshop skills will be taught, allowing you to download, manipulate and store your digital images using Adobe Photoshop techniques. You will learn how to create a portfolio page and post your photos on social media. We will also introduce short assignments that allow you to explore genres such as landscape, street and night photography.
You should bring your camera along to class with you. If required, we can provide cameras for use during the class.
As a significant element of this course is computer-based, you'll need some experience of using a computer. This course allows you to build a solid base from which to expand your digital photography skills and post processing in photoshop.
What qualifications do I need?
There are no formal entry requirements. All applicants will be considered based on their motivation to study this course. This should be reflected in the personal statement of the application
What can I do after?
This unit is provided as a stand-alone short course. However, successful completion may help students progress onto courses in media or photography, or become more employable in a range of jobs where it would be advantageous to have basic photography and digital processing skills.
