Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 2377-77 (formerly PAT Testing)
Course Overview
Course Aims
This qualification is designed for candidates who have electrical experience. The Electricity at Work Regulations require electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (previously known as Portable Appliance Testing PAT) is a method to ensure electrical equipment is safe.
Benefits of Attending
This course will increase your overall understanding of how to test and assess the safety of electrical equipment.
Outline of Programme
On completion of the course you will:
- understand hazards and precautions when testing electrical equipment;
- recognise differences between the construction classes of equipment and appliances;
- identify and carry out the stages of “dead-testing” and “live-testing” involved when testing;
- understand the standards required to pass each stage of the equipment test;
- know how to access information on re-testing and assess required frequency of formal visual inspection and testing.
Entry Requirements
It is desirable that you will already be an electrically skilled person because the scope of in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment is a significant enhancement on portable appliance testing known as PAT. Our experience shows that City & Guilds 2377-77 is proving more difficult to pass by people who are non-electrically skilled.
What can I do after?
Electricians registered with the SJIB/JIB can add the C&G 2377 qualification to their Grading Card. Other electrically skilled people can cite the C&G 2377 qualification as evidence of formal training for the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
