PDA Promoting Excellence in Dementia Skilled Practice

Course Overview
Content
Candidates will gain knowledge and understanding of the stages of the dementia journey, to develop their practice in enabling people with dementia (and their families) to be empowered and maintain their identity and dignity. This PDA is at SQF level 7 and requires candidates to be able to write academically and carry out individual reading and research with guidance and support from their Tutor.
Entry Requirements
Candidates should have direct and/or substantial contact with people with dementia and their families therefore should be working as Health and/or Social Care Support Workers in a Care setting. Formal agreement from the candidates’ employer is needed for this award as observation of the candidate’s practice in the workplace is a component of this PDA.
Format
Part-time course totalling 89 to 108 hours, including:
- two academic units and one SVQ unit
- nine half-day college class sessions over 18 weeks
- individual/distance learning
- workplace observation
- formal written assignments
