The awards which were re-launched in 2011 provide a fantastic opportunity to reward local athletes, coaches and volunteers and thank them for their dedication whilst recognising their achievements.
Not only is West College Scotland one of the proud sponsors they are delighted to have the very talented singer, songwriter, Katie Doyle, an HNC Music student from the College’s Greenock campus perform on the night.
Speaking to eighteen year old Katie about the event, she commented, “I’m very excited to be performing at the awards. It’s a great honour to have been asked and it’s a fantastic opportunity to raise my profile within the local community.”
Influenced by her musical family roots, Katie describes her style as blues and soul. Katie said, “Coming from a musical family I’ve been surrounded by music all my life and have been heavily influenced by the likes of Joss Stone and Billy Holiday.
“I’ll be doing a 20 minute set which will consist of all my own material. I love writing my own music. It’s a great way for me to express my feelings and I think by doing this through music people can understand and relate to you.
“I’m very much looking forward to the event and I’m excited to see how the crowd react to and enjoy my music
hopefully one day they will be singing along to my songs on the radio.”
The awards ceremony is an ideal platform for Katie to perfect her set before performing at the College’s Music department’s end of year showcase, ‘Here Come the Girls’ on Tuesday 2 June at the Beacon Centre Greenock.
