First and second year Painting and Decorating Apprentices Ross Johnston and Martin Bird from the Colleges Greenock campus were honoured for their hard work and commitment to their studies.
Painting and Decorating Lecturer, Andrew Neeson said, “Each year at the Greenock campus we recognise and award two students who have incessantly excelled throughout the academic year; producing work to an extremely high standard and to every task given.”
“Our 1st year apprentice award was given to twenty-two year old Ross Johnston, a first class dedicated student who worked with his company for two years before being offered an apprenticeship with them.
His wiliness to learn is admirable, completing all of his course work to an outstanding finish. He is worthy winner of this prize.”
Ross commented, “I really enjoy college; we learn a lot and I enjoy working with the other students. I’m delighted to have won; it’s very rewarding to see your hard work recognised. I’m looking forward to continuing with my studies, developing my skills and gaining the experience needed to make it in this industry.”
Twenty-five year old Martin Bird was awarded 2nd year apprentice of the year after displaying a natural ability for both painting and decorating.
Andrew continued, “Martin has been a pleasure to teach and has gone from strength to strength.
Like Ross he has shown determination and commitment to the course always producing work of a high standard.”
Martin said, “I was a bit reluctant about coming to the Greenock campus as it meant travelling from Glasgow everyday but that soon changed once I settled in and saw what the course covered.
I was overwhelmed when I heard I had won as I wasn’t expecting it. I’m thrilled and I know my employer will be too.”
