That’s the very funny and clever way our Paisley Campus Learner Development Step 1 students presented privacy on social media in an awareness film they produced themselves.

Our Step 1 classes from both our Greenock and Paisley Campus took part in the 2015 CKUK learner Awards. For these Awards, participating teams of young people were invited to produce a short film from A to Z, with the support of CKUK and their lecturers.

The theme for this year’s Awards was Social Networking – a topic of concern especially for young people. Our Greenock Campus students chose to focus on ‘cyberbullying’ whereas our Paisley Campus students featured ‘social media for older people’ in their film. Even though only a few students appear on camera, all of them participated in the production of the film behind the scenes. They did an amazing job and learned a lot.

David McKirdy, Paisley Campus Step 1 Student, the ‘technical expert’ of the Paisley team said:

I really enjoyed working on the film and it was great to get our hard work recognised at the Awards!

The Paisley Campus team won two Awards: Best Teamwork and People’s Choice; and the Greenock Campus team won the Best Internet Safety Message Award and Runner Up in two categories: Best production and Best performance.

Needless to say that the lecturers who supported our teams, Anne Munro at Paisley Campus as well as Lynne Harvey and Jonathan McCafferty at Greenock Campus, were very proud of their students’ achievements. Lynne points out:

We feel that CKUK were outstanding with our learners. It gave the students an opportunity to learn new skills in a more creative way. This has helped to build their confidence and self-esteem and they now have more knowledge and understanding of film production. I feel they worked well as a team and communicated well with each other to complete this project. The end result at the awards ceremony was a great sense of achievement for them and they are so proud to have been part of this.
