Speaking after his visit Mr McMillan said:
“I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit EE here in Greenock on the first day of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2015
“I was very impressed with the programme EE has in-place for their modern apprentices and also the enthusiasm of those undertaking the scheme. They are a credit to the organisation and I wish them every success for the rest of their apprenticeship and beyond.
“The Scottish Government has, quite rightly, placed an important focus on modern apprenticeships.
David Holmes, Head of Site EE Greenock added:
“I am delighted that politicians of all parties continue to place importance on apprenticeships in Scotland and I have appreciated the visits from Stuart. At Greenock, EE has the added support of Skills Development Scotland who continue to carry out excellent work with our learning partners to ensure we have the wider support we need. Apprenticeships continue to form part of the EE recruitment strategy and we continue to be committed to this.”
This innovative partnership between WCS and EE has seen over 60 young people from across Inverclyde and Renfrewshire being offered the opportunity to obtain their first, permanent, full time job whilst gaining a recognised qualification that demonstrates their competence and excellence in their role.
Morag Shields, Business Curriculum and Quality Leader at West College Scotland said:
"This is our third successful group of EE Modern Apprentices to have completed their SVQ3 in Customer Care. There are currently 2 more groups of students part of the way through their award and we expect to be recruiting for more in the very near future.
Many of today’s graduating students have indicated that they see this as a long term role with excellent opportunities for career progression.
