In July this year West College Scotland student Alistair Robertson travelled to Los Angeles, California to compete at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Representing Great Britain, Alistair was part of the 4-man Golf team, personally winning a bronze medal.
Alistair is a student at West College Scotland’s Clydebank Campus where he is studying for an NC Level 4 in Sport and Fitness. Last month Alistair attended the GB Team reunion in Runcorn, England, a chance to catch up and celebrate with his team mates.
“I went down to Runcorn with my region, Scotland West. It was great to see the rest of the GB team that I’d travelled to Los Angeles with. I caught up with the Golf team, we spoke about the great memories of our competition, and the world games as a whole.”
The event was a chance for GB Team to celebrate their achievements, and have a bit of fun, after a summer of hard work.
“On the Saturday night we had a Dinner and Awards Presentation. We all received certificates recognising that we’d participated at the World Games, and we received a poster of our sport too. It was a nice thing to have for our memories.”
“As we’d just been to LA, the theme for the after-party was Hollywood, and like the best Hollywood parties it lasted all night. Most of the team dressed up as film stars, but I kept it simple – shirt, trousers, jacket, and tie. It was a great night; I really enjoyed the presentation and the party.”
The next morning Alistair and the other members of GB Team went their separate ways, but all with memories of a great summer.
“On the Sunday morning me and the others from Scotland West headed back to Glasgow."
"I really enjoyed the weekend and enjoyed meeting the golf squad and the rest of the GB Team. The World Games was a fantastic experience, and it was great to celebrate it.”
