Sharon McAlindon, Access to Nursing student at West College Scotland, has secured a place at the University of West of Scotland for their Adult Nursing Bachelor of Science Course.

Sharon needed an extra boost to help her cope with her studies' financial fees. Impressed by the exceptional enthusiasm and drive of this busy working mum towards achieving her dreams, we awarded our 2015 University Bursary to Sharon.

Sharon is an accomplished mother. While caring for her children in their early years, she knew what she wanted to do when they would be old enough for her to pursue her professional ambition. She was looking forward to starting a career in nursing – her passion since a very long time. She was also inspired by her sister who achieved her goals in her mature years while Sharon was supporting her with childcare. Now was her turn to realise her full professional potential. She says:

In and around family and work commitment, I secured a place at College and now University. I am beside myself with this achievement all on its own and will endeavour to complete my three years of study and become a registered staff nurse.

Even though Sharon comes from a very supportive family, she needed the extra financial support. She says:

To have the generosity of this bursary is such a great boost and very beneficial for managing fees incurred in my studies.

We’re delighted to support Sharon in achieving her dreams and we’re looking forward to meeting her again in a couple of years – as a fully qualified nurse.
