Lecturer Julie Cooper with Erin, Lewis, and Kate
Pupils from High Schools across the region are regular visitors to West College Scotland. The regional position of the College allows partners to pool resources and provide courses that would be otherwise unavailable to pupils in the region.
As part of the College’s Higher Photography course, lecturers support pupils to enter the Civic Trust’s Secondary School photography competition. The Civic Trust is the national body for the civic movement in Scotland, encouraging the appreciation and improvement of our surroundings throughout the country. The competition asks pupils to photograph a building or location they admire, giving them an opportunity to express their perspective on the buildings and architecture around them.
Erin Moran's Highly Commended Entry
West College Scotland worked with pupils on this project, who went on to win in three out of four categories. Erin Moran of Linwood High School, and Kate Sinclair of Castlehead High School, were winners in the Highly Commended category, while Lewis Stables of Paisley Grammar High School saw his work win in the commended category.
Julie Cooper, Photography lecturer from West College Scotland, supported the class in their entries, and was delighted with their success.
“We have a really talented group of young people and it is great to see the work of Erin, Lewis and Kate being recognised. We are really proud of them!”

Erin, Kate, and Lewis’s work is now on display, as part of the Civic Trust’s ‘My Place’ Exhibition, at The Lighthouse in Glasgow City Centre – Scotland’s home of Design and Architecture. Students were presented with their awards at the exhibition, receiving certificates and specially made canvas prints of their work.
The Civic Trust’s ‘My Place’ exhibition runs until Monday 2nd May, at The Lighthouse, just off Glasgow’s Buchanan Street. Entry is free, and alongside pupils work, visitors can see a range of photography from across Scotland.
