BERLIN – February 18th and a contingent of West College Scotland Computing lecturers are on their way to join 12,000 other professionals as they represent the College at Berlin’s ‘Cisco Live’ – the leading networking technology conference for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Graeme Downey of Clydebank Campus, John Welsh of Paisley Campus, and Joe Harkins and Ian McCowan of Greenock Campus attended the conference as an opportunity to build their skills and networks, and ensure that West College Scotland students benefit from the latest developments and knowledge.

Curriculum leader Graeme Downey led the group.

“This was a very informative event for all.  We’ve seen the latest technological developments in the ‘Internet of Things’ and we’ve seen some of the latest Cisco Technology in action in their ‘World of Solutions’ exhibition.”

Bill Gallacher, Head of Business and Computing, is delighted to build our colleagues experience across our campuses.

“One of the main aims of trips like this is to ensure we are delivering quality technical training to our learners.  By attending this event the team can take the latest product knowledge back into the classroom.  As an added bonus, the trip helps to bond our Computing team across all three campuses.”

Paisley’s John Welsh was star of the event, winning the Rubix Cube challenge! John enjoyed the competitive atmosphere of the conference and won a FitBit Flex device by solving the cube in under 2 minutes, giving him the event’s fastest time. Not only did John get to keep the cube, the FitBit  device, in line with the conference theme of the ‘Internet of Everything’, will now allow staff to view John’s biometrics on the college intranet!

Quite the achievement for John, but this won’t overshadow the good work of the whole team, who are already sharing their new skills and knowledge with our students.
