Students have recently completed a unit photographing architecture, and as part of their training in this subject they have completed photographic assignments including photographing the College, and night images of their local area.
The unit gives them new insights in to the world of architecture and new ideas for their photography. During the unit of study the students have the opportunity to travel to Berlin in Germany to put their new found skills to the test.
A group of 21 students stayed in and documented the German capital from 14-18th March 2016.
Whilst there they experienced some of the many aspects Berlin has to offer from the strikingly modern to areas rich in History.
With a standard of work so high, tutors decided that it should be exhibited to a wider audience outside the college.
The Goethe Institut in Glasgow’s Park Circus is a German-funded cultural centre, using language and culture to promote partnership and common understanding with Germany.
The Institut welcomed the opportunity, hosting the exhibition and convening a reception earlier this month.
Ross Glasgow, Student Representative for the class, explained “I have a new found love for photographing buildings and structures. Being in Berlin was a fantastic learning experience - we visited so much from the renewed Bundestag to the Cold War TV Tower – a photographers dream.”
Not only does the exhibition cover the architecture of Berlin, but also the best photography from those students unable to make the trip to Berlin, ensuring a truly cross-cultural, pan-European offering.
Robert Tabor, Curriculum and Quality Leader for Photography said “The students never fail to amaze the lecturers here with their imagination and creativity – this year’s exhibition has again shown their skill and dedication to their work. It’s a great venue for such work, we are so grateful to the Goethe Institute for their support.”
Nikolai Peterson, the Head of the Goethe Institut, and Berlin familiar, was certainly impressed, remarking “These are superb works”.
The exhibition is open now and until the 29th of May at Goethe Institut, 3 Park Circus, Glasgow. More details here.
