The Big Bang came to our Clydebank Campus at the end of last month, welcoming local school pupils from East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde.
Partner event organisers DYW West, West College Scotland, Energy Skills Partnership and Tomorrow’s Engineers were delighted to gather more than 20 employers working in STEM field and to welcome over 350 attendees at the event.
The pupils were encouraged to visit the numerous stalls showcasing STEM activities and to take part in fun and engaging competitions such as the Greenpower Pitstop Challenge. Kids were thrilled to endorse the role of pitstop technicians, trying to get the fastest time at putting a tyre on and off a Greenpower race kart.
The event came up to everyone’s expectations and got pupils excited about STEM education and future careers in these fields – read what they say:
“I learned all about the modern apprenticeships through which you can get fully qualified”
“I discovered more about STEM careers, for example that there’s not only nurses, doctors and receptionists in the NHS”
“It’s been a really good day and my favourite thing was making this rocket powered car”
Bob Davidson, Programme Director at DYW West, said:
“Following our support and involvement with the Big Bang national event in Perth earlier this year – DYW West were delighted to partner with West College Scotland and ESP to make our Big Bang near me happen. With the support of 20+ employers that all offered hands on inspiring STEM related activities to 350+ pupils – the event was a great success. I would like to thank my team and all involved in helping make this happen. This event is an excellent example of what regional groups like DYW West can do when we work together – all for the benefit of our future workforce.”
