NATIONAL STRIKE GOES AHEAD BUT COLLEGE WILL OPEN

**TWO-DAY STRIKE: WEDNESDAY 15th & THURSDAY 16th MAY 2019**

NATIONAL STRIKE GOES AHEAD BUT COLLEGE WILL OPEN

The lecturers’ union, the EIS, is expected to undertake two days of national strike action on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May 2019.  This is part of a sector-wide pay dispute.

If the situation changes, the College will inform you as quickly as possible.  In the meantime, we are issuing the following advice to students:

  • As on previous strike days, the College will be open on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May but classes will not run, unless your lecturers have specifically told you otherwise. You do not have to attend College on this day, although libraries, refectories and nurseries will be open.
  • You do not need to self-certificate if your class is cancelled because of strike action. Arrangements are in place to ensure there is no impact on student payments. You will receive your support payments, as usual, whether or not you attend on Wednesday 8 May.
  • As well as strike action, the EIS continues industrial action short of strike action, including a “resulting boycott” and the “withdrawal of goodwill.” What this means for you is explained here.

  • The College will keep you up to date of any changes to these arrangements via the Student Intranet, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and the West College Scotland Students' Association's Facebook page.
