West College Scotland was proud to sponsor Scotland’s Boat Show for the 5th consecutive year.
Scotland’s Boat Show is the largest boat show in Scotland, 3rd largest in the UK and is now the UK’s largest brokerage (pre-owned) boat show - with an unrivalled selection of new and used boats on view, attracting approximately 16,000 visitors from far and wide.
Students from West College Scotland (Greenock Campus) were given the opportunity to showcase their skills and assist Hospitality Lecturer, David Smith, with a number of cooking demonstrations over the course of the weekend.
“I can see from the experience of the students’ participation how they can become more flexible with the tasks at hand and can show great leadership skills. I feel this contributes to the students learning and the skills developed will help them in their future job roles within the hospitality industry"
Hospitality Lecturer, David Smith, said, “I feel events like this are important to the students as it helps boost their confidence and allows them to demonstrate the skills they have gained since starting the college course. This is a unique experience for the students taking them from the class kitchens to live demonstrations”.
Students were also given the opportunity to take part in other tasks such as survey taking, meeting and greeting and selling their own treats such as cakes, fudge and tablet. Taking part in such activities helps students with planning, creativity, communication and enterprise skills. David Smith feels that by encouraging the students, they could gain confidence by receiving the Saltire Award for voluntary and recognition for all their hard work.
