Launched in 2013, the theatre company celebrates all things stage and musical involving members of all ages from the local community, with the adult section performing at the Edinburgh Fringe in recent years. This year’s production of Legally Blonde proved to be a huge hit and a complete sell out for their eight-day run.
Speaking to Fiona she said, “Next year sees Stage Avenue celebrate its 10th anniversary and I honestly could not be prouder of what’s been created so far.
Thank you to the brilliant acting department lecturers at West College Scotland for encouraging me to continue with following a performing arts path but particular thanks must go to Peter Pringle who pushed me to launch Stage Avenue from the moment I told him about it.
'I am now in a position where I am a Primary school teacher AND run my own successful stage school which allows me to enjoy both passions of mine. If I can offer any advice to anyone then I’d say if you really want something in life then work hard, trust the journey and don’t EVER stop believing”.
What’s more, Fiona loves to support fellow West College Scotland students. Since launching the adult section of Stage Avenue, every Technical Engineer has been a WCS student. Providing hands-on industry experience during the Fringe Festival encouraged Stage Avenue’s most recent work placement to enrol onto the Technical Theatre course at WCS.
At West College Scotland everyone is incredibly proud of Fiona and her success within the theatre industry. Her former Lecturer Leeon Hey commented:
Fiona was a wonderful student who was determined and driven. Being with us from her HNC to (BA Hons) has given her the valuable skills to run her own company, giving so many kids and adults some wonderful opportunities. We are so proud of her.
