West College Scotland is delighted to be established as a CSWTO Approved Centre for both our Clydebank and Greenock welding training facilities. CSWTO are an accredited certification body, formed over 25 years ago, to provide a reliable, credible and integral source of third-party certification and are widely recognised as the most respected welding awarding body in the world.
Dedicated to developing our own knowledge and skills to that of CSWTO Approved Centre standard, WCS will continue to provide training and education to our students that is recognised at international level. Our college plays a pivotal role in the shipbuilding, repair and maintenance industries in our local areas as well as supporting many engineering businesses with their apprenticeship programmes. The College sought to become a CSWTO Approved Centre to further enhance the training that we provide to our stakeholders and improve the quality of welding knowledge across the sector.
As part of the process Engineering Lecturer, Chris Hamilton gained qualifications as a CSWTO Instructor and Examiner for the MMA, MIG / MAG, FCAW & TIG Processes as well as gaining welding qualifications at the BS EN 9606 Standard in Aluminium, Stainless Steel and Low Carbon Steel as part of our accreditation approval.
Gary Waddell, Quality Enhancement Lecturer who has taken the lead with the Accreditation process said,
“Christopher has improved his job knowledge across all manual welding areas during this process and has really valued the opportunity to gain internationally recognised qualifications. It will help to enhance his own teaching practice and in turn pass on these skills and knowledge to his students.”
Head of Engineering at WCS, Alistair Rodgers said,
“We are delighted to have achieved the CSWTO Approved Centre certification in both Clydebank and Greenock. West College Scotland will now be recognised as a national centre for welding qualifications and this will enable us to further support local businesses with their own training needs. This will allow our stakeholders to base all their welding training in the local area rather than sending employees to different locations across the UK.”
