Our Paisley campus opened it’s doors to 93 local primary school pupils from Gallowhill Primary, St Catherine’s Primary, Newmains Primary and St John Ogilvie Primary with the aim of inspiring the young people to think about STEM careers and help organisations and educators hear about the latest opportunities for young people.
SmartSTEMs exist to inspire the next generation about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through cost effective collaboration between industry and education, assisting organisations, schools, and individuals by building and strengthening their support networks to collectively drive the STEM Agenda.
West College Scotland was excited to welcome a range of sector leading industry partners to host workshops and key note speeches for the young people including J.P Morgan. ThinkTank Maths, Glasgow Science Centre, Howdens, Arnold Clark, Police Scotland and Microsoft. The primary 6 and 7 pupils were engaged in STEM related activities from building wind turbines to learning about hackers.
Lee Coutts, Assistant Principal: Technology and Skills said,
“The College was delighted to host its first Smart STEM event at our Paisley campus last week. This is the first of many STEM events we have lined up and we look forward to welcoming our local schools, partners and communities onto our campuses to engage in a range of STEM activities over the coming months.”
