A group of school students have been taking their first steps in the world of business by completing their HNC Business as part of our Senior Phase Schools Programme. Attending 4 afternoons a week, the class is entirely made up of S6 pupil coming from two local authorities West Dunbartonshire which has Clydebank High pupils and Hermitage Academy pupils from Argyll and Bute.
The course has been on offer at the College through our Senior Phase Schools programme since 2017 but in previous years the school pupils have infilled into our full time provision. However, the course has proved so popular this academic year that the pupils have formed their own standalone group.
The pupil shared their experience of their time at our Clydebank campus and of the HNC.
Lucy McDonald from Clydebank High School said,
“Doing HNC business in my 6th year of school has opened up many opportunities. I have been able to broaden my business knowledge and prepare myself for the challenges of university.”
From Hermitage Academy, Amy Lane added, “It has been great to have an opportunity to have the choice to do a HNC whilst still at school. It gives me the ability to have a chance to be more independent with my work and makes transition from High School to higher education a lot easier.”
Katie Malcolm, Clydebank High School spoke about the ability to enter into further education at a higher level, “Doing the HNC business has given me the opportunity to experience a new method of learning compared to high school and will be able to go right into 2nd year of university to further my study of business.”
Jack Cook from Hermitage Academy highlighted the diverse and supportive teaching staff and the progression opportunities,
“The course has allowed me to go to my desired university course , into the 2nd year of the course and doing the HNC has allowed me to experience a different style of teaching which is closer to life at university.”
Ellie Young from Clydebank high School spoke highly of the course itself saying, “The HNC Business course offers a range of great modules which has widened my career opportunities.” This was echoed by Aimee Logan: Clydebank High School, “I enjoy the HNC Business course as it allows me to look into business in more details before choosing to continue it in university”
The College’s Schools Relationship Manager, Sharron Rodger said,
“It is great to see how well the group are progressing and how they plan to apply their learning from the HNC in their future studies. It is a fantastic opportunity for senior phase pupils to start their further education journey whilst still at school and give them a taste of College life.”
