Hairdressing graduate, Cameron Knox has shared his joy following a remarkable victory at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
At the 2023 Salon Awards in London, Cameron Knox was crowned Scotland’s 'Texture Stylist of the Year,' marking a historic moment as the first-ever Scottish winner in this newly introduced category.
The 26-year-old stylist who is based in a private studio within Glasgow's Hidden Lane said,
“This was a brand-new category, so technically I am the first person in Scotland to win. It felt amazing this year, but I wasn’t actually able to attend the awards ceremony in London due to a family bereavement."
Reflecting on the timing, he added, "It all happened in the same week, so it was really nice to get a little bit of good news; I think life is just funny like that. It came at a time when I needed a pick-me-up the most, and it was really reassuring to hear."
Acknowledging the significance of the achievement, Cameron stated, “This was my second year in a row entering the awards, and to be nominated both years in completely different categories is like ‘wow’ to me. For me, it wasn’t really about winning; it was more the process of the awards themselves, so being named as the top texture stylist in Scotland was the cherry on the cake. It’s quite overwhelming.”
Having grown up in Duntocher, Cameron started out his hairdressing journey at West College Scotland’s Clydebank campus after leaving school at 16. Cameron completed a modern apprenticeship and eventually progressed most recently to completing his HNC Hairdressing.
Highlighting the importance of the support he received at West, Cameron said
“I still go back to West for evening classes to keep my skills up to date. The college provides really good training, and I’ll always be proud to be a part of it. It’s where I did my modern apprenticeship, and it’s where it all started for me."
He emphasised, "The lecturers are amazing and always go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable every step of the way and built up my confidence massively - they set me up for success in the hair industry!"
Cameron looks forward to advancing his skills in the upcoming months, focusing on education and business growth.
