Modern Apprentice, Mandeep Singh has made the final 3 in this years Scottish Apprenticeship Awards in the Supporting Net Zero Apprentice of the Year category. This award celebrates the commitment of apprentices who are supporting and working towards Scotland's climate change ambitions and target of net zero emissions by 2045.
Nominated by his employer: FES Group (Energy & Renewables Division), Mandeep who completes the college element of his apprenticeship at West’s Paisley campus has been recognised for his renewables work, specifically on solar panels within the D2Grids project, a pioneering initiative focused on advancing 5th Generation District Heating and Cooling (5GDHC) networks in Glasgow as well as his work on Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) Scotland's first ever innovation district dedicated to advanced manufacturing amongst others.
West College Scotland’s Quality Enhancement Lecturer Suzanne Thompson has also been shortlisted in the Apprentice Instructor of the Year category. Suzanne who works in the college's Science team has been recognised for her dedication and innovative approach to apprenticeship training.
Suzanne, with over 16 years of experience in further education, has been instrumental in leading the pioneering Diploma in Pharmacy Services at West College Scotland. Her exceptional work has significantly impacted the training of NHS technical apprentices, with Suzanne currently supporting over 200 apprentices through her innovative approach to delivery. Working closely with the College’s Learning Technology team, Suzanne developed a bespoke online learning platform that provides structured content, resources, and assessment tools, ensuring apprentices can access high-quality education regardless of their geographical location.
The winners will be announced at a live ceremony hosted as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week on Friday 8 March 2024 at the P&J Live in Aberdeen. Good Luck Mandeep and Suzanne!
