This structured placement offered the students who are studying at our Paisley campus, a hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding of the wind energy sector and develop practical skills that will serve them well in their future careers.

Based at CWP Energy’s Head Office in Frodsham, the placement provided real-world exposure across a broad scope of wind power operations, from site assessment and analysis to wind farm software and project reporting.

HNC Engineering Systems student, Euan, 23 from Renfrew said “During my two-week placement at CWP Energy, I gained invaluable experience working with multiple teams across both on-site and office settings within a leading renewable energy company. At wind farms across Scotland, I got hands-on with turbine inspections and maintenance, picking up key engineering skills and health and safety know-how. Back at the office, I spent time with the Technical, Operations, and Projects teams, where I learned about wind speed simulation, boosted my Python coding skills, and even helped analyse turbine performance. This experience gave me a fantastic insight into the renewable energy industry and made me even more excited about a career in engineering.”

Sam Thomson, Head of Engineering and Technologies said, “We are incredibly grateful to CWP Energy for providing Mark and Euan this opportunity to gain invaluable, real-world experience in an industry that is essential to our future. At West, we believe in equipping our students with the skills they need to excel in their chosen fields, and we look forward to seeing Mark and Euan putting these skills into practice in their future careers.”

Sean Watkins, Assistant Operations Manager @ CWP Energy said, “We are proud to continue our partnership with West College Scotland, offering students valuable work placement opportunities that bridge the gap between education and industry. By providing Euan and Mark with first-hand experiences with the Project, Technical, and Operation teams, as well as onsite visits to our Sneddon Law and Sanquhar wind farms, we hope they both have developed a strong knowledgebase into renewable energy operations. I believe they will have a bright future in any area of engineering but hope that through the two weeks spent with CWP Energy, they will consider pursuing a career in renewables.”
