The partnership between West College Scotland (WCS) and The Bettii Pod brought together unique multi-disciplinary attributes in the development of an innovative product bringing a wealth of experience across the design, installation and compliance of the product development.

The product, the world’s first menstrual cup washer and sanitiser which can be installed in away-from-home cubicles, required both the College Electrical and Plumbing teams’ input to enable the safe operation and increase the efficiency of the design whilst identifying the current and future training requirements of Installers.

The College also achieved Commended awards in the three further categories they were shortlisted in for Lecturer of the Year: Suzanne Thompson; Skills Development Award for the "Sports Analyst Programme" in collaboration with Kilmarnock FC and Marketing and Communications category for our #WeAreWest Student Takeovers.

The CDN College Awards celebrate the exceptional talent, innovation, and achievements across Scotland’s colleges. This year’s awards saw a record-breaking 163 submissions, making the accolades even more meaningful.

Principal of West College Scotland, Liz Connolly expressed her pride in the College’s success, saying,

"Winning the Innovation Award for the Bettii Pod project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation. This unique partnership has not only delivered a ground-breaking product but also showcased the exceptional expertise within our Electrical and Plumbing teams. It is a shining example of how colleges can contribute to real-world solutions while preparing learners for the future. Achieving commended status in three other categories further highlights the dedication and creativity of our staff and students."

West College Scotland extends its congratulations to all the other winners and shortlisted colleges and thanks the College Development Network for recognising excellence across the sector.
