Students will be offered an extensive overview of the construction sector, providing the opportunity to explore various trades including plumbing, electrical and bricklaying before deciding which path to pursue in their future careers.
With the generous support of Morrison Construction, who are sponsoring the courses being delivered at West’s Clydebank and Paisley campuses, students will benefit from invaluable industry insight, including site visits, career talks from key supply chain members, and the opportunity for work experience, linking in with the Faifley Community Campus development and Paisley Grammar School development to provide valuable learning opportunities for the students.
This hands-on exposure is designed to increase students' employability and open doors to potential employment opportunities.
In addition to sponsoring the courses, Morrison Construction have also kindly donated essential tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that the students have everything they need to succeed during their time at college.
Dr Lee Coutts said,
“The course is not just an educational programme; it’s a pathway to a sustainable career. By allowing students to try their hand at various trades, they can make informed decisions about their future. The course is also testament to the power of partnership working and underscores both organisations commitment to investing in the future of young people in our region.”
Jim Johnstone, Head of Communities and Social Impact at Morrison Construction Building Central, commented:
“Helping educate the next generation of construction workers is vital for businesses like Morrison Construction, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with West College to develop this programme. We look forward to welcoming the students to our sites and introducing them in hands-on way to the fantastic range of careers available in our great industry.”
