In partnership with leading defence company Babcock International Group, West College Scotland offers S5 and S6 pupils in West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde an exciting opportunity to launch their careers in engineering through its pioneering pre-apprenticeship programme.

This innovative initiative allows students from participating local secondary schools to complete a National Progression Award (NPA) in Engineering, while gaining valuable industry experience and direct engagement with Babcock.

Now in its 3rdyear, the programme has enjoyed great success, participation has more than doubled in the second year now being delivered at the College’s Clydebank and Greenock campuses and to date 30 pupils have secured places on Babcock’s Modern Apprenticeship programme.

Schools Relationship Manager, Sharron Rodger said, “The success of this year’s students is a testament to their dedication and hard work, as well as the strength of our partnership with Babcock. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and industry, providing young people with real-world experience and a direct pathway into high-quality apprenticeships. Seeing over 95% of our students secure conditional offers is a fantastic achievement, and we’re excited to continue supporting the next generation of engineering talent.”

Erin Scott, Early Careers External Engagement Advisor added,

“We are thrilled to see the continued success of the programme, especially the success of the first year with the schools in Inverclyde. This programme supports social mobility by providing more opportunities for people to have a long-term career in engineering and defence. We aim to continue to work alongside the West College Scotland to continue to provide this opportunity to young people”.
