This collaboration exemplifies the shared commitment to equipping young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive in the sector. Engaging students from school age through to higher levels of study, the programmes offer a blend of classroom learning and real-world experience, bridging the gap between education and employment.
The pioneering Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction Skills provides vocational education as part of the senior phase curriculum, preparing students for direct entry into the construction sector. Delivered through project-based learning supported by Morrison Construction, this programme develops both technical and employability skills while students remain in school.
As part of the course, Morrison Construction offers live site experience at the new Paisley Grammer site located next to the College’s Paisley campus, allowing local pupils from Trinity High, Castlehead, St Andrews, Renfrew High, Paisley Grammar, Park Mains, and Gleniffer High schools to collaborate on a health and safety project. This hands-on opportunity enhances their practical knowledge and prepares them for future careers in construction.
Thanks to Morrison Construction's generous sponsorship, courses like this at West College Scotland’s Paisley campuses provide students with valuable industry insight, including site visits, career talks with supply chain professionals, and work experience opportunities. To further support the programme, Morrison Construction has donated essential tools and personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring students are well-equipped for their learning journey.
Schools Relationship Manager, Sharron Rodger highlighted the course's impact:
“Our partnership with Morrison Construction is a shining example of how education and industry can work together to create meaningful opportunities for young people at schools’ level. By combining academic learning with real-world experience, we are not only building skills but also shaping the workforce of the future. This partnership highlights our shared commitment to empowering local pupils and supporting the construction industry’s growth in our region.”
