Overview
Why Study at West?
As one of the only institutes delivering the SQA?s next generation of HNC qualifications in Acting and Performance, our courses are on the forefront of actor training, designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and determination to succeed in the arts.
What will I learn?
Led by a team with a wealth of professional experience in the performing arts, you?ll spend your time learning:
You'll learn about:
- Acting
- Movement and Voice skills
- Physical Theatre Techniques
- Acting Methods and Practitioners
- Industry and Audition Skills
- Acting for Camera
- Leading Drama Workshops
- Application of skills, including devised performances and a full-scale theatrical production
- HND Acting and Performance
- BA Acting
- BEd Teaching
By the end of your HNC, you?ll have a better understanding of acting, the industry and who you are as a performer. At our custom-built campus, you?ll also work alongside our HN Technical Theatre students, who will support you behind the scenes to make your work shine in our very own WCS theatre.
What qualifications do I need?
As a general guide, we would ask for applicants to have a National 5, or equivalent, in English. A higher English is preferable, but not essential. We are also aware a number of students will come to us through alternate pathways - if you feel you have the experience or capacity to thrive on our course, we encourage you to apply. .
All applicants will be invited to audition, where you will be asked to perform a monologue of your choice for a panel (a selection of monologues will be provided in advance.) You will then be interviewed to assess your suitability for the course and be given a chance to ask any questions you may have of us.
What can I do after?
After successfully completing the course, you will have the foundational skills needed to work as an actor in theatre, film or TV. Our graduates have had roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Hollyoaks and many more UK and international film, TV and theatre productions.
Many of our HNC graduates choose to develop their skills further by studying another course such as:
SCQF 7
