Overview
What will I learn?
This course is for you if you wish to work within the childhood Practice sector. This is a practice qualification and workplace experience is included. You will also be able to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.
You will learn about:
- Supporting Play Learning and Development
- Care in Contemporary Society
- Leadership
- Health Wellbeing and Safeguarding
- Lifespan Development Theoretical Approaches
- Supporting Language Literacy and Numeracy
What qualifications do I need?
You will need two Highers at grade A-C, preferably including English, or an NC qualification in a care-related subject, such as NC Early Education and Childcare or NC Education Support Assistance. You will also be considered if you have successfully completed either Social Services Children & Young People Foundation Apprenticeship & 1 Higher preferably English or Social Services & Healthcare Foundation Apprenticeship & 1 Higher preferably English.
For a place on the course, you will need experience of working/volunteering with children. If you are not currently employed in a childcare setting you will be required to complete workplace placements over the period of the course.
Mature students with significant experience of working or volunteering with children or young people may apply without qualifications.
You will need to submit a personal statement and attend an interview. You must be eligible to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
What can I do after?
After successfully completing the course you will have, the skills needed to work in early learning and childcare centres, NHS and Childminding. You will also be able to register at practitioner level with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Course duration: 2 years
Study Mode: Virtual
Course times: 6-9 pm, every Tuesday and Thursday
Cost: Year 1-£343 / Year 2-£685
If you have a SVQ 3 in Care, then the cost is reduced.
You may be eligible for a "SAAS Part-Time Fee Grant" of up to £500 per year please check the SAAS website
