What will I learn?

This online course will provide you with a strong knowledge and understanding of distressed behaviour in children.  Distressed behaviour in children is pro-longed and can take many forms and is not part of a child’s healthy and normal development where they push boundaries or try your patience by wanting their independence.  Distressed behaviour includes anger, physical or verbal abuse, reluctance to socialise and risk of self harm or injury to themselves or others.  The cause of this behaviour can be complex and if left unaddressed can contribute to further issues in adolescence.

The course will allow you to develop skills to identify distressed behaviour and how to support this.

This course is ideal for childcare, health & social care and education workers.  It is also a good tool for parents/guardians and anyone who may have an interest in learning more about this subject area.

Topics within the course include:

  • Awareness of distressed behaviour in children
  • Principles of intervention when working with children who display distressed behaviour
  • Distressed behaviour and mental health in children
  • Distressed behaviour, sensory processing conditions and autism spectrum conditions in children

This is a marked course which requires short essay style answers to allow your assigned marker to be able to identify that you have understood the skills and knowledge to meet the required standards.

This is a fully online course and access to the materials and Assessments will be emailed to you.
