Having started out her college journey as a Modern Apprentice, 25 year old, Aimee McKay from Fairlie returned to our Greenock campus last year to take her skills to the next level, completing her HNC Hairdressing.
Aimee said, “I chose to come back to college last year to complete my HNC to further enhance my career in the future. I wanted to equip myself with as many qualifications as possible to allow me to progress. I have a great clientele and have really progressed well within the salon where I work in but I’m always looking for growth within the industry.”
Having completed 5 years of study in total at our Greenock Finnart St campus, starting out studying Makeup Artistry before moving into Hairdressing, Aimee said, “I have -found these years in the college to have been massively beneficial, not only in allowing me to gain qualifications but getting the experience of being taught by such a mix of creative lecturers who I’ve learned so much from.”
Aimee who graduates this week with the rest of her HNC group said, “I really recommend a mixture of college study and working within the industry as it allows you to enhance your confidence massively but also to have a deeper understanding which you may not get from industry only experience.”
After getting so much out of her college experience, Aimee would love to share her expertise with future hairdressers and dreams of becoming a lecturer herself one day, she said, “I feel it would be so rewarding to be able to pass your skills and knowledge onto someone else and see how much that helps them to progress as well!”
Hairdressing, Beauty and Makeup Artistry Curriculum Quality Leader, Maureen Manley said, “Aimee has always been very motivated and passionate about her hairdressing career. She is driven and talented and was always going to be successful. Her enthusiasm made her a pleasure to teach, and she was always so encouraging to her peers and junior groups needing guidance. We are delighted she returned to us to take her qualification to the highest level in SQA Awards.”
We wish Aimee all the very best for her future in the industry and we can’t wait to see where the next step takes her - Good luck Aimee!
