In an ever increasingly competitive jobs market, studying a Business Skills Foundation Apprenticeship at West College Scotland, in partnership with Renfrewshire Council could be the key to standing out from the crowd!
17 year old Emily and 18 year old Bailey joined the College’s Business Skills cohort in 2019. The first year involved studying at the College, and the second year is a placement with the council - although due to the pandemic, this was done virtually this year.
When asked why she chose the course Emily said:
‘The Foundation Apprenticeship was a good option as I was already interested in Admin and Business. I was quite excited as you get work experience as well”.
When asked what her favourite part of the course was, Emily said:
‘I felt I was able to be creative - we did a marketing project which allowed me to think differently for planning campaigns and researching.’
Bailey shared how the Foundation Apprenticeship opened up the door to new learning experiences:
“it was good fun and it was a big difference from school. You were able to be more independent and really figure things out for yourself.”
When asked what he enjoyed most about the Foundation Apprenticeship Bailey said:
“It was probably the Team aspect of it. You are obviously working in teams rather than working in the classroom working on your own. It was a big difference and it was great to have someone be there with help, or to work on a project with.”
Both Emily and Bailey have been able to utilise their skills and experiences from the Foundation Apprenticeship to progress to the next stages in their career with Emily successfully applying to the Scottish Government’s MA scheme and Bailey securing his Modern Apprenticeship with Renfrewshire Council. We wish them all the best for the future!
