Responsible for almost 5% of Scotland’s employment, the Engineering sector offers a breadth of exciting career opportunities to young people. A group of local school pupils have been taking the first steps on that journey by studying an Engineering Foundation apprenticeship at West College Scotland.
Cameron, 18, said “I enjoyed the variation in subjects within the foundation apprenticeship and I’ll be coming back to college next year to study an HND.
Declan, 17 wanted to know more about engineering with hopes to progress to a Modern Apprenticeship. He said, “I’ve really enjoyed this course as it was so different from school. The Foundation Apprenticeship has given me an insight into what College is all about and I’ve enjoyed the hands on experience I’d gained.”
Planning to return to college next year, Valibhav Happy, 17 enjoyed getting out of school to learn in a new environment. Connor, also 17 echoed this saying, “You’re treated like a grownup when you’re in college and have more independence.”
Robbie, 17, really enjoyed the practical experience and plans to use his skills gained to look for an apprenticeship. Grant, 17, also enjoyed the college environment saying, “The workshops has been my favourite part. My plans for next year are to progress to University to study electrical engineering.”
