Eighteen year-old, Hannah Ross recently completed her Level 3 Business & Administration Apprenticeship.
Having no experience in Administration or Business, the apprenticeship allowed her to gain skills, knowledge and first-hand work experience within a busy, fast-paced office environment.
As a result, she's now secured a job as a Schools Administration Assistant at WCS!
Hannah tells us about her experience:
- What challenges did you face?
I came across a few different challenges whilst being a Modern Apprentice, the biggest being trying to manage my workload as well as working on my SVQ. Another challenge came when we first went into Lockdown. I found it difficult to stay focused and motivated in the house, but my colleagues and assessor helped me stay on track.
- What do you think are the main benefits of an Apprenticeship?
My MA has opened up more opportunities for me. I had no experience in Admin or Business as I didn’t do it in school, so this allowed me to broaden my skill set. I learned and improved upon lots of new skills that I will be able to carry on later in life.
- What did you enjoyed most?
This was my first ever job so I got to experience a whole new environment and meet new people which was great. I enjoyed being able to learn while I worked, getting a good qualification behind me whilst earning money.
- What transferable skills have you acquired?
It greatly improved my time management and organisational skills. It also helped me with my communication skills and overall developed my confidence in myself.
- Do you think the apprenticeship helped you gain employment?
The apprenticeship definitely helped me gain the job I am in now. It gave me experience in an office environment and I was able to bring the skills I learned forward into my new role within West College Scotland
