18-year-old, Lenny Griffin from Glasgow completed our fast track HNC Fitness Health and Exercise in January 2022 before progressing to HND level in August. Currently the only college in Scotland offering the fast-track programme, Lenny said that completing the January start course at our Paisley campus helped prepare him for the HND.
Having left school before Christmas last year he didn’t want to wait until the summer to start his career journey, “I knew I wanted to study Fitness and Exercise at college but all of the other courses I looked at didn’t allow me to start until the following summer and I didn’t want to spend 6 months doing nothing.”
He definitely didn’t regret his decision saying,
“My classmates and I who completed the fast-track programme first were already used to managing our workload and studies. We also already knew the lecturing team having worked with them on the fast-track course and had got settled into the campus environment.”
Speaking of the course he said, “I really enjoyed the physiology and nutrition side of the course. I also enjoy the physical aspects, they are really fun and offer something different from learning in the classroom.”
With hopes now to progress to university after his HND to study either Sports Science or Biomechanics, Lenny would love a career working with athletes, specifically sprinters having had a passion for athletics outside of education. Lenny said he would recommend the course to others, especially those keen to get started in the industry and progress to a higher level of study saying that the course provided a “good opportunity and is not widely available elsewhere in the sector”.
