Megan Dennison originally started her college journey in 2021 where she completed her in NC Beauty Therapy before taking a year off to have her daughter.
She returned to West College Scotland, Paisley Campus to further her education studying an HNC Beauty Therapy. Nearing completion of the course, Megan secured employment as a Spa Therapist with The Spa In The Walled Garden situated within Loch Lomond Golf Club following a class visit organised by her lecturers.
She said, “This role allows me to meet people from a variety of different backgrounds, including some from overseas from places such as Sweden, Kenya and the USA. Each day is different, and I enjoy having both new and returning clients and providing bespoke treatments catered to the individual. The peace and tranquillity provided by my work environment within the Walled Garden ensures that I am always happy and relaxed at work.”
During her time at college, Megan says she was supported by her lecturers,
“They couldn’t have been more considerate, especially during heavy workloads and assessment time. They were always happy to help. They helped me improve my confidence and skill set to perform treatments in my new job. I was lucky to be in my class group as it was filled with kind and considerate students who were keen to work hard and support each other’s learning and shared likeminded views for the future.”
Speaking of her decision to return to learning as a mature student Megan said, “I began working after leaving school and going to college was not something that I thought about. I decided that I wanted a change in career to find a job I was truly happy in. I began my course as a mature student and naturally found this daunting as I was a bit older than the other girls in my class. However, I soon realised that when you have the same goals and aspiration as others then age wasn’t important and I was able to make new friends who I have kept till this day.”
Megan plans to progress onto HND furthering her education, along with progressing in her role in the spa with hopes of one day becoming part of the management team, “I feel that the workplace ethos and my aspirations are well aligned.”
