West College Scotland’s Building Services department is proud have one of the top skilled apprentices in the country in their student body, plumbing apprentice Paul Marshall who recently got down to the final 8 at World Skills UK finals. This outstanding achievement puts Paul in the top 1% of our industry apprentices.
Lecturer, Brian Thomson said,
“We are so proud of Paul and what he has achieved throughout the competition process. He has developed his skills to a very high standard and he should be extremely proud of making it to the final 8 and competing alongside other top competitors from around Britain.”
Speaking of the experience, Paul who works for James Frew Ltd, said, ‘’The competition was very challenging, and each day had it struggles. At the end of the competition I was happy I had completed the installation and managed to successfully pressure test my work with time to spare, although there were a few section I feel I could’ve improved on. I was still very happy with the work I had produced in such a challenging environment.”
Although Paul didn’t place in the medals, he still said it was a brilliant experience and one he could be proud of.,
“I will look back fondly on the whole experience, I got the chance to meet lots of different people from our industry and got some good prizes from the event sponsors too which was nice!”
Brian who attended the competition with Paul said that the standard of work produced by all competitors at the final was exceptional, “I hope Paul will look back on this experience as being one of highlights of his apprenticeship. It’s been a pleasure sharing this journey with him. I would like to wish Paul all the very best for the future. He has a very bright career ahead of him for sure!’’
