Having completed an ‘Architectural Photography’ unit the students from the College’s Paisley campus were given the opportunity to capture first-hand one of the world’s best architectural cities.

Inspired by the city’s culture and contemporary arts the students photographed scenes of the cosmopolitan city including that of the Holocaust Memorial and Brandenburg Gate.

Curriculum and Quality Leader for Media, Robert Tabor commented “We have been running the Berlin trip for the last six years now and each year it continues to prove how inspirational and fundamental trips like these are to our students learning and development.

“Being in Berlin with the students is the highlight of the HND Photography course year; assisting in building both their confidence and their portfolios. For the students to be able to apply their skills in a vibrant city like Berlin is a great experience.

“The results they have achieved this year have been outstanding – they have proved to be a very talented group of individuals with prosperous futures ahead of them.”

Speaking to the students about their study trip, twenty-seven year old Anthony Kerrigan from Paisley said, “I really loved my time in Berlin; being able to concentrate solely on photography for five days was fantastic. I found the city inspiring and there was so much to see and do. Working with my class and tutors on location was a great learning experience – the fun memories I have from Berlin will be with me for life.”

Thirty-year old student, Keith Orr who created a video production of his images commented, “I have been experimenting with this video technique recently for my college work and thought I would use it to create video from all the images I captured in Berlin. The results always surprise me – it takes me right back to the amazing time we had. I have now perfected this technique and can see commercial opportunities. With the help of the College and Bridge to Business I am planning to become a self-employed photographer next year, the Berlin experience has taken me closer to that goal."

Returning from their trip with a portfolio of images that capture the essence of Berlin, the students work will now be displayed at the prestigious Goethe Institute in Glasgow’s Park Circus from Wednesday 22 April until Friday 29 May.
