As part of a unique collaboration between West College Scotland and Sainsbury’s, one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains, the creative students from the College’s Clydebank campus were asked to commission a range of artwork that would brighten up the café area within the supermarket.
Speaking to Art and Design Lecturer, Rona McNicol about the project she said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Sainsbury’s. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase their work and it’s great to see them getting the exposure they deserve.
“The staff at Sainsbury’s do a great job of making people welcome and building on community links. The café has a real buzz about it and we’ve had some great feedback from staff and members of the public; everyone seems to be enjoying the artwork of local scenes and culture.”
Deputy Store Manager, David Robson from Sainsbury’s Drumchapel, commented, “The artwork is a welcome addition to the café. The students have done a great job creating some fantastic artwork that is being enjoyed by both our customers and staff – it’s become a real topic of conversation here at the store.
“We hope to continue this partnership and are excited to see what the students produce next.”
Speaking to the students about seeing their designs displayed in the store, eighteen year old Amy Sloan from Dalmuir said, “It’s great to see a company like Sainsbury’s encouraging local talent. Knowing you artwork is going to be seen by the public inspires me to put even more effort in to my work.”
