Having secured employment at Jones Whyte through a connection made with the firm by Design Lecturer, Debbie Dennett, the pair spoke to the class about their journey from West College Scotland to Glasgow Caledonian University and now about working in industry.
Discussing their work experience they gave an insight into their roles at Jones Whyte, in which they play an important part of the companies growing marketing department. Showcasing some of the projects they have been involved in, they discussed the varying types of mixed media they use in creating content for range of platforms and how creating work from scratch and seeing it come fruition is such a rewarding part of their job.
Sean Kelly, commented,
It was definitely a proud moment for myself being given the opportunity to return and present where I began my journey.
'To meet the students going through the same process I had done a few years ago and share my experience with them in the hope to help them in their own journeys was a career highlight for myself.
'Also can’t forget meeting my lecturers who had such a detrimental impact on my studies and career. It was a great experience which I hope can continue and maybe grow in the future. Thanks again for having me.”
Cameron Hunter, said, “To have the opportunity to come back to WCS and speak to the current students was great,
I had an amazing experience at college and having an opportunity to give back was one I couldn’t turn down.
'Having a platform to discuss your journey and what you have achieved so far is brilliant and hopefully I was able to inspire a few students to pursue different avenues and try new things.
The experience has inspired me to do more and hopefully get to work with the College again. Thanks to Debbie for having giving me this chance to do something different.
Sean McCabe, Marketing Executive at Jones Whyte, commented, “Sean and Cameron have been terrific finds for our firm, both quickly becoming integral members of the team, without whom I would be lost.
We are only too happy to support the college in any way we can to help bring through the next generation of designers.
Design Lecturer, Lola Patterson said, "We are so very proud of our Alumni students who have taken the opportunity to return and share their education and work experiences with our current students.
The standard of work shows the level of their commitment to their degree studies and balancing industry work as designers. We are immensely grateful for their support and time that they invested with our students. Very inspiring for both staff and students.
