The visit, held on Tuesday, 25th February, was part of the Work-Based Challenge Unit (WBCU), with Johnston Carmichael providing valuable support and industry engagement.
The session was led by Elisa Henderson, Early Careers Pathway Manager at Johnston Carmichael, and provided students with an introduction to career pathways in accountancy. The visit included an Early Careers networking activity with Johnston Carmichael colleagues and a Professional Etiquette and Skills workshop, giving the students key insights into the professional world.
Kelsie Baillie of Gleniffer High School shared her experience saying,
“The employer visit was very helpful in understanding the operations of a busy accountancy company.”
Sophie Murney also a pupil at Gleniffer High School said, “We really enjoyed the visit, and it helped us understand more about the employer’s business.”
Accompanying the group was Lecturer Erin Mooney, who emphasised the impact of the visit on students’ learning experience, “It was a successful visit and a great insight for the students to see a working accounts firm environment. The visit was an excellent opportunity for students to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, reinforcing their understanding of the industry and career possibilities in accountancy.”
The foundation apprenticeship programme provides senior phase pupils across Renfrewshire with the opportunity to start their careers in Accountancy while still at school, gaining valuable industry experience alongside a recognised qualification.
