Overview
What will I learn?
This course is for Childhood Practice staff who are qualified to practitioner level 7 or have also gained the required level 8 credits . This is an opportunity to study part time to assist career enhancement in a leadership role within the Childhood Practice sector.
This is offered in partnership with UWS 120 credits at level 8 and 120 credits at level 9
The course has been designed to meet the Standard for Childhood Practice through study of learning within childhood, leadership and management, reflective practice and research.
Core modules provide you with sound theoretical knowledge, underpinning the issues for the wide age range of children from birth to 12 years.
At each level, the programme is structured into a study of four key areas, relevant to all childhood practice settings:
- The child in the sociocultural context
- Child development and learning
- The developing professional
- Personal research and enquiry
We support you to:
- Build your knowledge of leadership, management and professionalism
- Develop communication and management skills
- Learn about organisational development and inter-agency working
What qualifications do I need?
Attainment of SNEB, HNC, SVQ3, SVQ4, PDA or similar practitioner qualification in the childhood practice field.
You must be currently working in a childhood practice setting such as a nursery or out of school provision and be registered with the SSSC. You must also possess a minimum of two years work experience in childhood practice.
What can I do after?
This qualification will enable you to significantly develop your career in childhood practice. The graduate attributes developed will equip you as a leader in a range of childhood practice contexts and for further studies.
This qualification leads to enhanced registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Programme Information
The BA Childhood Practice is delivered at the Greenock Campus in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland.
The BA is a part time evening course and runs one evening a week for three years, with start and finish dates to be confirmed by UWS.
