What will I learn?

Professional Development Awards (PDAs) are aimed at developing the skills of those already in employment or in voluntary roles. They are principally designed for those already in a career or vocation who wish to extend or broaden their skills base. All PDAs aim to support learners to:

    • Develop transferable skills, including Core Skills
    • Demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others
    • Develop personal effectiveness
    • Develop critical thinking and meta-skills
    • Progress within the SCQF framework and where possible into further or higher education
    • Provide opportunities for career progression

Learners who successfully complete the PDA will develop their

        • Awareness of the policy context of adult learning in Scotland
        • Knowledge of the theoretical background of adult learning
        • Understanding of effective adult learning methodologies
        • Ability to plan and deliver adult learning sessions
        • Reflection and evaluation techniques

What qualifications do I need?

Entry to this qualification is at the discretion of the College No formal qualifications are required however candidates should be in employment or a voluntary role within adult learning.

Communications skills at SCQF level 6 or equivalent are recommended and an interest in working with people to develop their learning would be advantageous

What can I do after?

Those who successfully achieve this PDA may explore the possibility of continuing their learning through a range of related qualifications.

Programme Information

Start: 20 January 2025

End: 11 June 2025

Duration: 6 hours per week for 18 weeks

Time : Monday and Wednesday Evenings . The delivery will be a mixture of “virtual classroom “and face to face depending on the needs of the group . Class will start between 5.00pm -5.30pm and will finish at 8pm
