Overview
Why Study at West?
At WCS we’ll help you take the next step towards an exciting and stimulating career in the Film & Television industry. You will be taught by industry experienced staff, and from the outset, you will be involved in productions designed to challenge you and further develop your knowledge and skills in the various craft and production roles in television and film making.
By the end of your HND, you will have a portfolio of work showcasing the knowledge and skills you have developed throughout your course, preparing you for progression to further study at degree level, or employment in a range of industry roles.
What will I learn?
Working on location and/or our recently upgraded Television studio.
You'll learn about:
- Advanced Camera skills
- Sound Recording & Microphone applications
- Sound Post-Production
- Advanced Editing
- Scriptwriting
- Research for TV
- Work Placement
- Creating a Showreel

What qualifications do I need?
You'll need to have successfully completed HNC Television.
What can I do after?
Our graduates have gone on to establish careers as:
- Camera operators
- DOPs
- Editors
- Directors
- Assistant Directors
- Researchers
- Production Assistants
- Sound Recordists
They work across productions such as Football World Cups, ATP Tennis Tours, The Olympics, Dragons’ Den, River City, Reality TV, Corporate production, Documentaries and Music videos.
Others are independent film makers or run their own Production Companies.
Many choose to progress onto Degree courses at universities such as UWS, Napier, Stirling and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as universities and art schools south of the border.

This course can be taken either full time or part time – there are many flexible options available to you as to when and how long you can take to complete this course. This can all be discussed with you at interview.
